Vincent, 1982

This short film by Tim Burton was the 1st stop motion film he worked on while he was still working at Disney. Tim Burton went to CalArts to study character designs and his gothic characters are still most revered by the stop motion animators still to this date. Many became stop motion animators inspired by Burton's impressive body of works from Corpse Bride to Nightmare Before Christmas. You can see with this earlier film Vincent, that his design of the negative and positive spaces are so well designed and very much inspired by Film Noir. It's equally impressive that this was animated before the toggle, onion skin with Dragonframe was introduced. Stephen Chiodo did the animation and he went on to create Chiodo Brothers studio in Burbank with rest of his brothers.
