Mykyta Lyskov is an award winning animator who directed Kohannia, an absurd 2D animation about Ukraine. I have watched it before but watching it now under the invasion of Putin is bone chilling. There is a scene of nuclear bombing, and the short is about the inability of Ukranians to shake off the Soviet influence. One can really feel the conflict and tremendous tension the Ukranians were under even before the invasion.
It’s difficult to ignore what is going on in the world at the moment. Vladimir Putin, against the wishes of many of his people, decided to invade Ukraine. In 2022, the thirst of power, violence and destruction by another mad man yielded so much suffering and deaths in Ukraine. The war is only escalating at the moment as I write this. I am glad for voices like Lyskov.
